The latest adaptation of Emily Brontë’s novel is causing a huge buzz, while dividing viewers into fans and staunch opponents of Emerald Fennell’s vision. But it’s not the director’s first rodeo – her two previous films evoked strong responses as well.
Fennell’s feature debut, Promising Young Woman, told the story of 30-year-old Cassie, on a mission to avenge her friend who was raped by a group of college students. The film, starring Carey Mulligan, won an Oscar and a BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay.
The second film in Fennell’s career, Saltburn, focuses on Oliver (Barry Keoghan), a young man from a middle-class family who wheedles his way into a friendship with handsome fellow Oxford student Felix (Jacob Elordi) to get close to his aristocratic family. The flick, whose plot bears more than a passing resemblance to The Talented Mr Ripley, received Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations.

UK viewers have two options for watching Fennell’s second film.
It’s available on BBC iPlayer, where you can stream it free if you have a TV Licence.
It’s also available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. While a subscription starts at £5.99 per month for ad-supported access to Prime Video, a 30-day free trial is available. During that time, you can watch Saltburn for free.
