Nothing has announced the launch date for its next big mid-range smartphone release, the Nothing Phone (4a), in typically cheeky fashion.
In the latest of a series of bold X posts from the company, Nothing CEO Carl Pei has posted an image of the recent 4 March Apple event invite – which could include the iPhone 17e – with the words “Nothing” and “5 March” crudely graffitied on top in bold pink paint.
This warrants some unpacking.
Only joking. The Nothing Phone (4a) is going to be unveiled on 5 March, obviously. It will rival the Google Pixel 10a, which will launch tomorrow.
Update: Nothing has now sent us the official invite (main image above) which confirms the event is for the Phone (4a) series, along with a 10:30 GMT time.
It’s possible the choice of pink paint is a reference to a new colour option for the new mid-range smartphone series. After all, in recent posts from the company’s X account, four colours have been consistently hinted at in relation to the Nothing Phone (4a) launch: blue, pink, white and black.
Plus Pei teased a “bold new experimentation of color”.
We’re not sure where this leaves the teaser post from last week, which showed ‘(a)’ in five colours. Yellow appears to be missing from these latest teasers.
It could well be a reference to the rumoured Nothing Headphone (a) – a cheaper set of over-ear Headphone (1) that’s been rumoured to launch in early March. Reports suggest that Nothing will lean into the plastic look, with a couple of bright colour options that will include pink and yellow.
We’ve seen such an approach before from the company in the Nothing Ear (a), which shipped in a similar shade of yellow alongside the company’s signature white.
As for the other attention-grabbing teaser post from Nothing, well, we’ll just leave it right here. “Coming soon”, indeed.
The Nothing Phone (4a) is set to be an even bigger deal for the company than previous phones in the series.
Nothing recently announced that it wouldn’t be releasing a new flagship smartphone in 2026, which places an extra onus on its mid-range series.
Back in mid-January, Pei hinted at price hikes from the brand amidst memory component pressure brought about by the current AI boom. Expect the Nothing Phone (4a) to be more expensive than the Nothing Phone (3a) before it.
