As Entertainment Editor at Tech Advisor, I take notice when a new piece of viral tech is making the rounds on social media, especially on channels of creators that I love to watch in my spare time.
One that constantly pops up on my feed is the LG StanByMe portable TV. This absolutely mad 27-inch display has a built-in battery for up to three hours of charge and is attached to a movable stand on discreet wheels, so it can be carted from room to room, while the screen can be moved in a variety of ways.
But many commenters are put off by the cost. When it launched, it was a whopping £1,199. But this Prime Day, you can bag it for just £699, one of the lowest prices the LG StanbyMe has ever been, though this deal will only last until Friday and is exclusive for Prime Members – you can take advantage of a 30-day free trial here.
That is still a lot for a TV that’s not 4K. So, what’s made it such a hit?
I first saw the hype in action during a video by one of my favourite comfort YouTubers, Michelle Choi, best known for her Living Alone Diaries series – now renamed as the Homebody in New York series. The TV’s cream finish matches the clean, calm and seamless aesthetic that Choi manages to create in her content.
See it in action below, timestamped to the part where she tests the LG StanbyMe:
The screen of this LG TV can be rotated from landscape to portrait (so can be used for social media, browsing recipes online and more), and tilted and adjusted to suit whatever viewing angle you prefer – whether you’re chilling in bed, cooking in the kitchen or even having a bath – yes, seriously.
As Michelle discusses, there’s NFC support so you can mirror content from your phone, and it supports AirPlay 2 for iPhones and other Apple devices. Plus, it’s touchscreen, so it can be used as a (very large) tablet.
It even features a USB port and a HDMI port at the back. So, you can plug in streaming sticks, laptops and some consoles like the Steam Deck – though ones that require power like the Nintendo Switch 2 will require a power outlet, as another favourite creator of mine, Cozy K/cozy.games, points out.
This TikTok by ashlan.pruitt also demonstrates how it can be used outside in sunny weather, or when you’re short on space. For example, if you need somewhere to work out. Generally, many influencers with this TV agree it’s ideal for anyone living in a flat or apartment who struggles to find space for a traditional telly.
It’s certainly an investment, but if you want the TV social media is desperate for, now is the best time to buy the LG StanbyMe.
If you’d prefer an entertainment deal that’s a bit more budget-friendly, check out this unmissable smart home bundle, and keep track of the best deals we find this Prime Day on our live blog.
